January 2019 Newsletter
Thanks to you, we smashed our year-end fundraising goal!
We’re one month into 2019, and already we’ve had two exciting developments for CES. First, we want to thank everyone who donated during our year-end campaign. We blew past our goal and were able to raise $165,002.92! We are blown away by your generosity and support for better voting methods. This support will go a long way as we work to bring a better ballot to more cities this year.
Didn’t get a chance to make a donation to CES during year-end? You can still donate to the cause by visiting our newly-designed donation page.

A New Website for a New Age of Voting Reform
Speaking of our newly-designed donate page, our brand new Center for Election Science website officially launched! We still have all the educational resources that you’ve come to rely on, plus we’ve added new advocacy tools and an interactive “Problem and Solution” page (shown above) to aid you in advancing the cause of better voting methods.
If you haven’t seen the new site yet, go check it out and let us know what you think! We hope you enjoy it.

Make a difference—become a CES board member.
This past week, our board chair, Janice Dru, stepped down and was replaced by a new chair—Felix Sargent. Janice’s talent and skill led CES through a time of great growth and change, including seeing Fargo become the first US city to implement approval voting. We are sad to see Janice go, but we are so thankful for her service to the organization and the cause. Check out our blog for a special post about the leadership transition from our new board chair.
Are you like Janice, wanting to put your passion for voting methods into action to truly make a difference? If so, consider applying to join the CES board of directors! You would be joining an accomplished group of individuals who are enthusiastic about voting method reform and using their talents to advance the cause.
Check out our blog post about what it means to be a CES board member, and send us an email expressing your interest. We look forward to hearing from you!
Help us name our newsletter!
Over the past few months, you may have noticed some changes to the way our newsletters look and feel. We’ve been working to make our emails more engaging and relevant to you. As part of that revitalization, we’d like to come up with a fun name for our monthly newsletters. This will help you distinguish which emails are our normal newsletters, and which are separate, special update emails.
We’d love for you to help us choose a name! Please take our approval-style poll to tell us which names you like best.
The options are:
- The Voter’s Voice
- The Voting Voice
- The Election Connection
- The Suffraging Scientist
- Reform Report
- Monthly Mandate
Join us in Las Vegas and Nashville
CES will be attending BISC Road Ahead in Las Vegas February 6-8. We will also be tabling at Unrig Summit in Nashville March 29th-31st. If you’ll be attending either summit or are a resident of Nashville or Las Vegas, we’d love to meet up with you. Send us an email so we can schedule coffee and chat about voting methods!
We’re all in this together,
The Center for Election Science Team
