We empower voters and lawmakers to improve elections

Valuable research, focused on real problems, with actionable solutions.

Who We Are

Founded in 2011, The Center for Election science is an national nonpartisan nonprofit focused on election analysis and voting reform advocacy. We are committed to translating knowledge and discovery into tangible, real-world changes to the voting system that empower all.

We study elections, how people vote in them, and the obstacles - new and old, seen and unseen - that make voters feel disconnected from democracy. While the study of voting often gets overly academic or purely political, we strive to remain firmly grounded in the practical.

As seen in

I am excited to lead our next generation of operations, focusing on serving as a catalyst for data-driven research, civic innovation, and electoral reform. By fostering a culture of civic innovation, we aim to empower communities with the tools and knowledge they need to advocate for fairer, more representative electoral systems. I encourage you to connect with us and share your research and your passion for advocacy.

Together, we are paving the way for a more just and equitable society, where informed citizens and effective policies converge to shape a brighter future for all.

Get to know CES

We focus on knowledge at our mission's core.

We seek out the invisible trends and forces that are acting on voters, institutions, and politicians like vote splitting. We examine elections as a whole, while providing comprehensive education and resources, with a goal of empowering individuals with the knowledge they need to understand how the electoral system they find themselves in is evolving.

research into action

We advocate for actionable solutions like approval voting.

Approval voting allows voters to select all the candidates on their ballot they would support - and none they don’t. This system allows individuals to support who they truly want, changes politicians’ incentives around money and attention, while electing only the most broadly supported candidates.

For most jurisdictions, converting to approval voting would be completely free. Approval voting is already in action - it’s a 700-year-old consensus finding tool used in some U.S. elections today.

driving policy

We mobilize communities and legislatures to enact policy changes.

This includes providing critical support for civic engagement efforts and grassroots initiatives to understand the negative impact of invisible factors like vote splitting. Together we seek to advance approval voting initiatives and to strengthen democratic institutions overall.
